Vignola Stronghold, Contrari Chapel, the vault: “Trinity and the Evangelists”. This fresco depicts the four Evangelists, the blessing Infant Jesus in the manger, the risen Christ,  the mystical Lamb, the three-faced Trinity with the Tree of Life. The Trinity is represented here as a three-headed human figure, that is, made up of a single body and three heads, to indicate that three different faces appear in a single substance. This rare iconography was looked upon with suspicion by the post-Tridentine Church and explicitly condemned by Pope Urban VIII in 1628.
