Nonantola Abbey, portal: the panels of the right jamb (external face). The panels, commissioned by Abbot Rodolfo, were created between 1002 and 1032 by Wiligelmo and his assistants and narrate the Nativity and Childhood of Christ. From bottom to top, the panels depict: Telamon; the Annunciation; the Visitation; the Madonna giving birth and the first bath of the Baby Jesus; the Nativity Scene; the Angel's Annunciation to the Shepherds and the Flock; the Adoration of the Magi; the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple; and the Angel speaking to Joseph to persuade him to flee to Egypt.
