"Virgin with the Child" by Antonio Begarelli, 3D Model

A 3D model of the first of the six statues by Antonio Begarelli who adorn the pillars of the Church of Saint Peter in Modena.
The Virgin tramples the snake, a clear allegory of Satan on which she triumphs, while she holds the child in her arms and offers him to the view of the believer.
Antonio Begarelli (1499-1565), the last terracotta sculptor of the Renaissance, had originally painted his sculptures in white, wanting to imitate the more noble marble sculpture.
The white patina, lost today, revealed the colour of the original terracotta.
