Nautical Map of the Mediterranean Sea, by Jacopo Russo. This pilot book was made in 1565. Russo was a cartographer active in the first half of the XVI century in Messina, which had become a centre of great importance for the production of nautical charts. Jacopo, unlike other contemporary cartographers, provided useful data for the study, and not only for navigation, such as information on settlements and resources, customs and traditions.
