L’altare d’argento di San Giovanni: il fianco destro. La struttura del dossale ha una matrice tardogotica, con otto formelle anteriori e quattro laterali (due per lato), su due registri e spartite da pilastri poligonali in stile gotico fiorito, popolati da numerosissime statuette in piccole nicchie, realizzate a fusione piena. Sul fianco destro la formella in alto di Antonio di Salvi e Francesco di Giovanni rappresenta Il festino di Erode e la danza di Salomé. La formella in basso il cui tema è La decollazione del Battista è attribuita ad Andrea del Verrocchio con la probabile collaborazione del giovane Leonardo da Vinci.
The Silver Altar of St. John: the right side. The structure of the dossal has a late Gothic matrix, with eight front panels and four lateral panels (two on each side), on two registers and divided by polygonal pillars according to a flowery Gothic style, populated by numerous statuettes in small niches, made in full fusion. On the right side, the upper panel by Antonio di Salvi and Francesco di Giovanni represents Herod’s feast and Salomé’s dance. The panel below depicts The beheading of the Baptist and it is attributed to Andrea del Verrocchio with the probable collaboration of the young Leonardo da Vinci.
