Map of the City of Bologna, Agostino Mitelli 1692. Paper on canvas, ink and watercolor, 114 x 78 cm. State Archives of Modena, Estense Mapbook, Large Maps, No. 7
"Map of the City of Bologna, drawn, engraved and dedicated to the glorious St. Petronius, Advocate and Protector of the said city, by me, Agostino Mitelli Bolognese, in the year 1692." "This legend is written on a pedestal drawn in the lower part of the map on the left, above which is painted the figure of St. Petronius, Bishop. On the right, there is a brief historical and descriptive note of the city. At the top is the heading: Bologna in the Pope's City Plan, published in the year 1692, where all the churches, hospitals, charitable institutions, convents, parishes, colleges and senatorial houses are described, as they are currently, with all the streets, or "stradalli," as they are now called, noting that the crosses expressively indicate the doors of the churches, the stars the entrance to the senatorial houses. There are some small streets, which do not give the possibility of indicating their names, with a summary of the most notable things of the said city and its state." "Next to this legend are drawn four coats of arms: one of the Pope, another of the Municipality, and the others appear to be of the Legate and the Bishop."
